Undercover Israeli Troops Say They 'Neutralized' 3 Gunmen Hiding in West Bank Hospital

There was no immediate Palestinian confirmation of the men's identities.

On Tuesday, the Israeli military disguised as Palestinians killed three gunmen in Jenin's Ibn Sina Hospital in the occupied West Bank.

The police claimed they were members of a "Hamas terrorist cell" planning to carry out terror attacks.

Israeli Forces Kill 3 Gunmen in West Bank Hospital

Online footage from CCTV shows around a dozen undercover troops, including two disguised medical personnel and three dressed as women. The disguised troops are pacing through a corridor of Ibn Sina Hospital with assault rifles.

Israel's border police claimed that three Palestinian gunmen were killed in an operation by the force's undercover unit. According to the Israeli military, one of them was a Hamas member who was organizing an attack inspired by the October 7 massacre.

Hamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7. The attack led to Israel attacking the Gaza Strip and increased violence in the West Bank, another area where Palestinians seek statehood.

The Israeli military statement identified the two other Palestinians killed in Tuesday's operation as members of the Islamic Jihad, which is affiliated with Hamas and a gang of gunmen headquartered in Jenin. It alleged that both had been involved in recent attacks.

The Palestinians did not immediately confirm the men's identities.

Growing Violence in West Bank

The United Nations human rights chief and the European Union have expressed concern over ongoing violence in the occupied West Bank and attacks by settlers on Palestinian villagers. A prominent member of the government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has advocated for the growth of outposts occupied by illegal settlers into permanent settlements.

On Wednesday, hundreds of Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Turmusayya in the West Bank, the day after four Jewish settlers were killed near the area.

The EU envoy to the Palestinians, along with over 20 diplomatic missions from the EU, has visited Turmusayya to express condolences to the victims of the settler attacks on June 21 and see the houses and property impacted.

The chief spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also denounced the settlement attacks in Turmusayya and Urif. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the situation was "very grave."

"This is an incident that creates terror and escalation, and takes the population that isn't involved in terror and pushes it [toward extremism] while preventing the IDF from fighting terror in operational activities," he told Army Radio.

Volker Türk, the head of UN Human Rights, warned that the violence this week could spiral out of control, fueled by strident political rhetoric and an escalation in the use of advanced military weaponry by Israel.

On Monday, the Israeli military operation in the Jenin refugee camp launched airstrikes from helicopters, killing at least seven Palestinians. At least 91 Palestinians and seven Israeli soldiers were hurt.
