Seven-Alarm Fire In Boston Leaves Estimated $1 Million In Damages

A seven-alarm fire in Boston early Monday morning left two firefighters injured and an estimated $1 million in damages, Boston.com reported.

According to Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald, firefighters responded to the scene around 4:15 a.m. to a three-story duplex undergoing renovation, completely engulfed in flames.

"This was just a huge volume of fire, right off the bat," said MacDonald, who added firefighters had to fight the blaze from outside of the building.

Since the fire was so large, a total of 140 firefighters rushed to the scene. They were able to put it out within an hour, but were still being cautious and dumping water on rubble in case of any fire underneath it, MacDonald added.

Two firefighters were wounded in the incident, one injuring his shoulder and the other his back. Additionally, four adults and one child were removed from the neighboring building.

Boston.com reported that damages were estimated at $1 million, according to officials.

It is too early to tell what could have caused the fire, MacDonald said.
