Rolling Out! Elon Musk Reveals Tesla's Humanoid Robot in First Walk, X Goes Crazy

The video footage Musk shows elicited mixed reactions.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared a video on Wednesday (Jan. 31) of the company's humanoid robot Optimus walking in its factory, but social media users had a mixed reaction regarding the company's feat.

"Going for a walk with Optimus," Musk posted on X, formerly Twitter, as an update on the robot's progress.

The video showed the robot moving slowly around a room while a small group of people observed its movements, the New York Post reported.

Previously, the Tesla boss said that the goal for creating Optimus was to make it "capable of performing tasks that are unsafe, repetitive, or boring," including folding shirts.

Some Users Call to 'Kill' Optimus 'With Fire'

On the other hand, many social media users have expressed concern about the development of humanoid robots, fearing that robots capable of artificial intelligence (AI) could be a menace to humans in the future.

"Has no one seen the movie ['I, Robot']?" one X user replied to Musk's video.

"We do not need these things," another commented.

"Kill it with fire!" said a third user.

Meanwhile, some social media users took this video as an opportunity to find humor and make memes out of it, including how Optimus walked "better than [US President] Joe Biden."

First dubbed as "The Tesla Bot," Optimus was first announced at Tesla's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Day event in Aug. 2021, with the latest iteration, Optimus Gen 2, introduced in December 2023.

Fox News reported that the new robot stood 5 feet 11 inches (180 centimeters), weighed 121 lbs (54.89 kg), and could run at a speed of 5 mph (8.05 kph).
