President Biden's re-election campaign made a stop in Florida, hosting two fundraisers.
This comes from a report from the Associated Press. The first was at the Pelican Club, known for its wealthy members, just an hour from Trump's Mara Lago resort. The President took the time to thank the donors and jab at his potential opponent in the upcoming election. Biden stated "You're the reason Donald Trump's the defeated president." He went on to say that, "And you're the reason we're going to make him a loser again." Biden also took time to jab at Republicans as well by discussing their limiting the cost of insulin on top of other prescription drugs.
He also took another jab at Trump accusing the former president of "Threatening our very democracy." The Democratic party overall has also been gaining strong support as positive economic news has recently entered the news cycle with both the IMF and Federal Reserve forecasting positive outcomes in the wake of inflation going down.
The President's second fundraiser took place in the evening in the Miami area and was hosted by the national finance chairman for the Democratic National Committee, Chris Korge. According to the report, Korge said the event raised $6.2 million. Biden also seems confident in his ability to win the swing state, despite that during the most recent midterm elections the democratic party received a heavy loss.
Florida's Uncertainty
Looking over to Trump, one of the spokespersons for his campaign Steven Cheung rejected the president's notions stating that he is "...just as delusional as Nikki Haley thinking she has a shot to be the nominee. Americans know that they were better off with President Trump." Florida Republicans seem to share this notion as the party's new state chair, Evan Power, stated "President Biden can keep visiting Florida all he wants, but I hope while he is here he learns from the policies here that are working. We look forward to retiring him and his failed administration in November." Power had become the new state chair for the Republicans of Florida after the previous state chair, Christian Ziegler, was ousted following a sex scandal.
Historically the state of Florida has been a swing state, and it seems that in this upcoming election, history seems to be repeating itself. It won't be clear which party won the state over until November so for now the only thing both parties can do is continue to move along their respective campaign trails and continue hosting fundraisers.
