The U.S. government is now accusing Iraq's ISIS of the deadly drone attack, which recently killed three American servicemen and injured dozens of troops.
The incident happened on Sunday, Jan. 28, at Tower 22; a secret military base located in northeastern Jordan. This facility is critical for the United States since it helps maintain American presence in Syria.
Now, National Security spokesman John Kirby said that the drone attack was conducted by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq. Here are other details you need to know.
US Blames Iraq's ISIS for Deadly Drone Attack That Killed 3 American Troops
On Wednesday, Jan. 31, NSC spokesperson John Kirby said that Iraq's ISIS was the one that planned, resourced, and facilitated the deadly drone attack, which killed three U.S. troops and injured 40 American soldiers.
Kirby said that U.S. President Joe Biden "believes that it is important to respond in an appropriate way," as reported by The Associated Press.
He added that the American president is now weighing retaliation options for the U.S. against the deadly drone attack. John Kirby warned Iraq's ISIS that the first thing they see won't be the last one; saying that it "won't be a one-off."
The NSC spokesperson also mentioned the decision of Iraq's militia Kataib Hezbollah to suspend military and security operations against occupation forces to save the Iraqi government from embarrassment.
Kirby explained that the Hezbollah group is not the only one attacking the United States, which is one the group can't be taken at face value.
Biden Says US Will Respond To Deadly Drone Attack
According to ABC News, U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed on Tuesday, Jan. 30, that the United States will respond to the drone attack.
However, he clarified that the U.S. is not seeking a wide war in the Middle East. As of writing, the Biden Admin hasn't confirmed the exact retaliation efforts they plan to make against those who launched the drone attack.
But, a U.S. official said that in the next several days, the government start striking multiple targets.
"These are going to be very deliberate targets -- deliberate strikes on facilities that enabled these attacks," said the American official.
