Grief specialist David Kessler, the founder of grief.com, said that when people are laid off from their jobs, most of them want other individuals to witness their grief and trauma.
"Now, we can actually show the trauma, and that's never been done before. And it's a way of saying, 'What happened to me mattered, and I want you all to know, and I want you all to bear witness,'" explained Kessler via USA Today.
Aside from sharing grief and trauma, another reason why people post their layoff experiences is to have a sense of power. Psychologists and other experts said that some people may find this practice inappropriate, but others can feel empowered by sharing their stories.
It can also lessen their lonely feeling since others who also have the same experience can communicate with them. Kessler explained that this trend shows that delivering bad news to other people also matters.
