No. 14 UNC continues to climb the rankings. The Tar Heels (22-7) notched their 11th straight win with a 60-56 victory on Saturday against Virginia Tech. Although UNC's leading scorer, sophomore guard Marcus Paige, was kept to just nine points, junior forward James Michael McAdoo and sophomore forward J.P. Tokoto both stepped up with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
"He's got a great motor," Paige said of Tokoto, via ESPN. "And he gets the bucket-getters every night. And at the same time, he's able to bring it on both ends."
Notre Dame (15-15), meanwhile, continues to struggle in their inaugural season in the ACC. The unranked Fighting Irish have lost three of their last four games, including an 85-81 loss on Saturday against Pittsburgh.
"We have to be ready for a big North Carolina game," freshman guard Steve Vasturia said. "It's the last game of the season. We have to take the positives from (the Pittsburgh game) and try to get better."
Vasturia led Notre Dame in rebounding with six boards against Pittsburgh. Fighting Irish coach Mike Brey acknowledged rebounding has been a problem for his team, especially with his frontcourt players.
"Our perimeter guys were our leading rebounders," Brey said. "Having said that, (we) had chances, but it was just a tough one."
UNC and Notre Dame met on Feb. 8; the Tar Heels won, 73-62.
