New York-Bound Plane's Cockpit Catches Fire After Leaving Toronto Airport

The plane was supposed to fly from Toronto to New York.

Endeavor Air flight 4826 - a Bombardier CRJ900 passenger jet carrying 74 people on board from Toronto to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport - reported an electric fire in the plane's cockpit, forcing the pilot to make a mayday call and turn around for an emergency landing in Toronto a few minutes after takeoff.

According to Newsweek, the incident happened on Feb. 3, with air traffic control audio revealing that it could have been a life-or-death situation.

Endeavor Air, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, has yet to respond to reporters' requests for comment.
