Pennsylvania Man Arrested for Fatally Stabbing 19-Year-Old Ex-Girlfriend in Front of Police Officer

A police officer arrived to see a male brutally stabbing a 19-year-old female.

In a tragic incident last week, a Pennsylvania man allegedly stabbed his former girlfriend to death in front of a police officer before attempting self-harm, authorities reported Monday.

Trevor Weigel, 23, stands accused of fatally stabbing Jaden Battista, 19, during a violent encounter on Friday outside a residence on Waterford Road in Lower Makefield Township. Authorities indicate that Battista sustained more than a dozen stab wounds, with estimates suggesting she was attacked at least 15 times.

Detailed Account of the Waterford Road Incident

According to official statements released by the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, the events transpired shortly after 2:20 p.m. when law enforcement received a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on Waterford Road.

What initially seemed like a routine call quickly escalated into a harrowing scene of violence and tragedy. District Attorney Jennifer Schorn disclosed that the initial call, ostensibly about a burglary, was later revealed to be a domestic-related issue.

As per police reports, Battista was in communication with a friend via FaceTime when she noticed Weigel outside her home, attempting to gain entry forcibly.

The friend, who stayed connected during the call, recalled hearing alarming sounds before Battista's voice suddenly went silent, sounding muffled as though someone were covering her mouth to silence her.

Concerned for her friend's safety, the individual promptly dialed emergency services, prompting law enforcement to respond swiftly to the scene.

Upon arrival, an officer witnessed the unthinkable: Weigel, standing beside a vehicle with the door ajar, chasing down Battista and subsequently launching a vicious assault against the victim using a knife.

The officer intervened to halt the attack, but not before Battista sustained fatal injuries from the stabs. Weigel, in a desperate bid to evade capture, fled on foot, inflicting self-harm in the process by stabbing himself in the neck multiple times in front of the police. A frantic pursuit ensued, culminating in Weigel's eventual apprehension by law enforcement, who deployed a Taser to subdue him.

"He pulls up on the scene, he sees a male brutally and violently stabbing a young 19-year-old female," Lower Makefield Township Police Chief Kenneth D. Coluzzi said. "He tries to take every measure he can to save her life while other police officers give chase to this coward who was running from the scene. Amazing police work."

Meanwhile, efforts to save Battista's life were made in vain as she succumbed to her injuries upon arrival at the hospital. An autopsy later confirmed that Battista had suffered multiple stab wounds to her neck and chest, sealing her tragic fate.

Authorities Uncover Tragic Story of Domestic Violence

Weigel and Battista were in a relationship for two months before separating two months ago. According to information from an affidavit of probable cause obtained by People Magazine, footage from police body cameras recorded during Weigel's arrest suggests that he accused Battista of being unfaithful and admitted to losing control.

Following his apprehension, Weigel was taken to the hospital for surgery to treat his injuries. In a poignant reflection on the severity of domestic violence, District Attorney Schorn underscored the profound loss endured by Battista's loved ones, urging vigilance and awareness in combating such tragedies.

"This case serves as a reminder that one can never fully appreciate the lethality of a situation when enduring domestic violence," Schorn said.

Weigel is now facing a litany of charges including criminal homicide, burglary, and possession of an instrument of crime. According to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, Weigel is presently detained without bail. It is unknown whether he has submitted a plea or engaged legal counsel to represent him.
