OnePlus enters the smartwatch scene with its newly unveiled Watch 2, which the company claims will have a 100-hour battery life.
The reveal comes after several months of rumor, and the formal debut of the company's latest product will be at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month. OnePlus is notorious for drip-feeding details regarding its products.
OnePlus Unveils New Watch 2
While the company has not yet revealed some essential information about its newest wearable, it has offered a few juicy details. The first is that it has made the lofty claim that the OnePlus Watch 2 will have a 100-hour battery life on a single charge.
OnePlus said that that feature is with the product's "full Smart Mode" being turned on rather than a battery saver mode. The purported battery life of the Watch 2 far exceeds that of most mainstream smartwatches currently available on the market, including the Apple Watch Series 9 with 18 hours and Pixel Watch 2 with 24 hours, as per Engadget.
The president of OnePlus, Kinder Liu, said the company's goal with the new device is to "win the title of the Best Flagship Smartwatch of the year with its market-beating battery life." The firm also said that the new wearable apes the design language of the OnePlus 12 series.
The Watch 2 will have a stainless steel chassis and a sapphire crystal watch face and will be available in two colorways: Black Steel and Radiant Steel. The company promises "unparalleled reliability for everyday use and meticulous health monitoring" as well.
However, the company is keeping other key details of the new wearable, including pricing and the release date, under wraps for now. Another factor that OnePlus has not yet confirmed is the Watch 2's operating system.
Updated Design and Performance
The Watch 2's purported 100-hour battery life is actually less than the first OnePlus smartwatch, which lasted roughly 19 days during a review in 2021. However, that was partly due to that product not doing much in the first place. According to The Verge, it did not have any third-party app support or voice assistant, and it had terrible fitness tracking.
Other rumors of the new product's specifications include a 1.43" AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset, and the possibility of coming with WearOS 4. This is the perfect time for OnePlus to take advantage of Google's expansive OS with its resurgence as a platform.
In a statement, Liu said that after a three-year hiatus and a reflective pause following the OnePlus Watch 1, they are more confident than ever with the new Watch 2. He added that this confidence is not unfounded as it is built on substantial advancements in the company's technological ecosystem and capabilities.
The president added that OnePlus' new wearable will provide consumers with an experience that is improved and transformed. The public will soon be able to find out if there is any truth behind Liu's words on Monday, said Yahoo Life.
