AT&T Outage Update: Telco Giant Offers $5 Credit—Consumers Say It's Insult

Is the $5 credit per account enough for the inconvinience?

Previously, AT&T suffered from a serious internet outage, which affected many consumers-approximately 240 million subscribers.

Because of the major AT&T outage, many consumers probably think that it was caused by a cyberattack. But, the American telco giant clarified that there was no malicious attack.

AT&T said that based on its initial review, the outage was caused by an execution and application of an incorrect process since they are expanding their network.

Now, since millions of customers were affected, AT&T decided to provide reimbursements. If you want to claim yours, here's what you need to know.

AT&T To Reimburse Users Affected by Outage

On Sunday, Feb. 25, AT&T announced that it will provide credits to those who were affected by the outage. It confirmed this effort via its official X post.

"We recognize the frustration Thursday's outage caused & know we let many of our customers down," said AT&T via its official announcement.

"To help make it right, we are applying a credit to potentially impacted accounts to help reassure our customers of our commitment to reliably connect them - anytime and anywhere," said the telco giant.

The internet service provider said that the reimbursement will take 1-2 billing cycles depending on when your AT&T bill closes. This means that the telco giant will be the one processing the reimbursement; you don't have to do anything.

According to CNN, the $5 credit will only apply to AT&T Wireless subscribers potentially impacted by the outage. Those under AT&T's Business or Prepaid plans, as well as Cricket Wireless accounts, will not be included.

AT&T Consumers Say $5 is an Insult

In AT&T's official X post, many consumers shared their frustrations and disappointments since the telco giant is only giving a $5 credit per account for the 12-hour outage.

"A single $5 credit per account with multiple phones is an insult. You failed here," said a netizen.

Another AT&T subscriber said that the $5 credit will not cut it. He asked Verizon if they got any offer so he could switch to their service.

Meanwhile, others argued that the $5 may be the daily cost. But, the outage caused stress and loss of business for some AT&T users.

"Surely the company budget (or executives bonuses) can handle more than $5!!" said another netizen.
