University of Houston Cougars Maintain Top Spot in AP College Basketball Poll

The Houston Cougars have reclaimed the top spot in the Associated Press Top 25 Men's College Basketball poll after defeating Baylor by a score of 82-76, accumulating 53 poll points in the process. At the same time, Purdue also moved up one spot after defeating an underachieving Michigan Wolverines squad by 11 points.

Senior big man Zach Edey scored 35 points in the win.

The Connecticut Huskies dropped from the number one spot after losing to Creighton last week. They had been No. 1 in the nation for six weeks before the loss but now sit at No. 3. It was Creighton's first-ever win over a No. 1 ranked team.

The Tennessee Volunteers men's team moved up to No. 4, their highest season ranking, while Marquette, Arizona, Kansas, Iowa State, North Carolina, and Duke completed the top 10.

Auburn is currently ranked 11th in the nation after leapfrogging three spots and Creighton jumped three spots as well to No. 12 after defeating Connecticut.

Four other teams rose two positions. No. 21 Dayton Flyers fell five spots following a loss as the favorite against mid-major George Mason, while No. 15 Baylor fell four spots after losing to BYU and Houston.

The Florida Gators were the only team in the poll that showed no movement, maintaining its position at No. 24 in the nation.

South Florida entered the poll for the first time in school history at No. 25. No. 22 Utah State and No. 23 Gonzaga returned to the poll after being ranked earlier in the year but falling out for weeks after key losses.

Speaking of falling out, Colorado State, Texas Tech, and BYU each fell out of this week's poll.

The Southeastern Conference had three ranked teams: No. 14 Alabama, No. 16 Kentucky, and No. 18 South Carolina. The Big 12 also has four teams, all in the top 15. The Big East has three.
