Two bodies were found by New South Wales Police detectives who were searching for a Sydney gay couple, Luke Davies and Jesse Baird.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb confirmed the discovery of the couple Tuesday afternoon, local time (Feb. 27), after investigators established a crime scene at a property at Bungonia, southwest of Sydney, Australian public broadcaster ABC reported.
Detectives said that police located the bodies inside two "surf bags" as part of their investigation, alleging that they were used to "transport the bodies" from the first crime scene in Baird's home in Paddington. They also said they understood the bodies were found near a "fence line" near the entrance to the property in Bungonia
"Today is an important day in this investigation," she said. "We are very confident that we have located Luke and Jesse."
Police Officer Charged of Killing Ex-Lover
NSW Police have charged one of its own officers, Senior Constable Beau Lamarre-Condon, for killing the couple, which they alleged happened last week. Lamarre-Condon also allegedly happened to be Baird's ex-boyfriend.
"My understanding at some stage, it was a relationship. There's been a lot of information, a mountain of information," Police Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said. "This has been a huge investigation. The scope has been far and ranging."
Police added that the officer in question was the "sole person responsible" for the alleged murder.
Webb added that the discovery of the bodies came "with the assistance of the accused."
Doherty added that arrangements have been made for the families of the deceased to "travel down to the Goulburn area" and would provide "ongoing support" as needed.
