12-Year-Old Kansas Boy Drowns In Ice-Covered Lake

A 12-year-old Kansas boy drowned in an ice-covered lake in Missouri on Monday, the Kansas City Star reported.

The Lafayette Coroner pronounced Devin Fossett dead at 3:30 p.m., just two hours after his father reported him missing.

After Fossett's father found his son's belongings near the lake, Lafayette County Sheriff's Office, Odessa Fire and Rescue Protection District, and Odessa Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.

Though firefighters were able to pull him from the water, attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Last month, a two-year-old boy in Carter County died days after he was found unresponsive in a creek.

Carter County Sheriff Rick Stephens said the mother of Adrian Hindal found her son not breathing around 10:30 a.m. on February 24, right after she went to do a load of laundry.

"The mom was very close to him, looked away for a minute or two to take out a load of wash and he was gone," said Adrian's uncle, Arvin Rudolph.

When emergency responders were unable to resuscitate the toddler, he was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital and then flown to a hospital in St. Louis where he was later pronounced dead.

"We know there are a lot of people thinking about us and we invite everybody to pray for us, we need that, and we are trusting everything in the hands of God," Rudolph added.
