Biden Makes Unannounced Visit to Walter Reed for Physical

The White House said they would release updates of the medical results in due course.

US President Joe Biden revealed on Wednesday, Feb. 28, that he is making an unannounced trip to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for a physical examination.

Already the oldest president in US history, Biden would be 86 by the end of a potential second term if he wins in November.

"I'm going to Walter Reed to get my physical," he told reporters as he left the White House aboard Marine One. White House staff said they would release a written summary of the "routine" check-up later in the day.

After his previous physical exam, the White House said that doctors declared Biden to be still "healthy," "vigorous," and "fit" for the top job.

However, voters have been approaching this year's election with misgivings about Biden's age, having scrutinized his gaffes, coughing, slow walking, and even a tumble off his bicycle, the Washington Post reported.

Observers and reporters are expected to monitor developments of the annual check-up.

The tradition of the president having a check-up every year has been done since the presidency of Richard Nixon.

Walter Reed, the hospital all presidents use for routine medical care and examinations, is in Bethesda, Maryland.
