Thomas Kingston—the husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent—was found dead on Feb. 25, and coroners said that he died from a "traumatic head wound" and a gun was found near his body.
According to an inquest opening on Friday (Mar. 1), Gloucestershire senior coroner Katy Skerrett outlined the circumstances of Kingston's death.
"Mr. Kingston was visiting his parents' home in the Cotswolds," she said. "On February 25, 2024 he ate lunch with his parents. His father went out to walk the dogs."
On his return, Kingston's father was not in the house, and after approximately 30 minutes, "his mother went to look for him," and his father forced entry on a locked building when there was no reply, local media reported.
"He found Mr Kingston deceased with a catastrophic head injury. A gun was present at the scene," Skerrett added. "Emergency services were called. Police are satisfied [that] the death is not suspicious."
Royal Family Remembers Thomas Kingston
Buckingham Palace announced on Feb. 25 that Kingston suddenly died at an address in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire and that King Charles III and Queen Camilla were informed of his death.
"The King and The Queen have been informed of Thomas's death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in grieving a much-loved member of the family." the palace said in a statement. "In particular, Their Majesties send their most heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Gabriella and to all the Kingston family."
His widow, Gabriella, paid tribute to her financier husband in a joint statement with his family, describing him as an "exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him," and that his death was a "great shock to the whole family."
Prior to marriage into the House of Windsor, Kingston was the ex-boyfriend of Pippa Middleton, the younger sister of Catherine, Princess of Wales.
Meanwhile, Lady Gabriella is a writer and a contributing editor for an undisclosed publication. She is a distant cousin to Prince William and is currently 56th in the line of succession to the British throne.
