An explosion at a townhouse complex in New Jersey sent at least 10 people to the hospital on Tuesday, CBS News reported.
The explosion at Heritage Crossing Development in Ewing occurred around 1 p.m. According to CBS Philly, nearby homes were also on fire, prompting firefighters to evacuate them immediately.
At least ten people were transported to the hospital, many of which were reported as burn victims.
Officials told ABC News that a private company was working in the area when an employee struck a gas line. Shortly after, PSE&G arrived to help, and then the fire began.
Marsha Brown, a resident in the complex, compared the explosion to a bomb.
"A house was in flames, gas workers were laying out with legs broken, arms broken, gashes," Brown said. "It shook me to my core... Never seen anything like this."
Witness Robert Negrone expressed the same fright as Brown.
"There was debris everyone, people were out here hurt, people were on the ground. Some were PSE&G workers," Negrone said. "They said 'Get away, the gas lines are all connected."
Local media said several emergency vehicles are on the scene and several areas are still being evacuated.
