Police on Long Island are reportedly looking into the possibility that a love triangle could be the motive behind the dismembered body parts of a man and woman discovered near a Babylon school as the search for remains has expanded.
Kids walking to school found one of the body parts last week. Since then, police have found a total of six body parts, including an arm, head and parts of legs belonging to a woman. They also found two arms believed to be from a man.
At least two people were arrested early Tuesday in connection with the case, the New York Post reported citing unnamed sources. The arrests came after police descended on a home in Amityville late Monday.
WNBC-TV cited unnamed sources in reporting that investigators are looking into whether a love triangle was the motive for the killings.
Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine told News 12 Long Island, "I believe this was an isolated incident where people chose a park to put the bodies, not where it occurred."
Police are using DNA testing to identify the victims. They have also not ruled out a gang connection to the killings.
The medical examiner said the man's arms have tattoos on them and they are hoping to come up with a match in police databases.
Another set of remains was found Monday in Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, the Daily News reported. It was unclear if there was any connection between the cases.
Suffolk County Police would did not confirm any arrests in the case but expected more information to be released later on Tuesday.
