Sen. Bob Menendez faces now faces a slew of new charges connected to his federal bribery case, after prosecutrors added accusations against Menendez and his wife, Nadine, in a rewritten indictment returned in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday.
Among the new charges are conspiracy, obstruction of justice, public offiical acting as a foreign agent, bribery, extortion and honest services wire fraud, according to the Washington Post.
The feds allege the pair accepted gold bars, hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and a luxury car in exchange for favors for three businessmen.
The New Jersey Democrat and his wife have pleaded not guilty, along with two of the businessmen. The third busineman pleaded guilty last week and agreed to testify at trial against the other three, the Associated Press reported.
A May trial has been scheduled.
Menendez, 70, has refused calls to resign from Congress after his indictment.
