5 Restaurant Guests Hospitalized With Internal Chemical Burns After Being Serviced Dry Ice as Mouth Freshener

The victims started vomiting blood

Five diners at a restaurant in India were hospitalized after consuming dry ice they were served as a mouth freshener.

The guests reportedly threw up blood and suffered internal chemical burns shortly after consuming the toxic product.

Two of the victims are in critical condition according to India broadcaster NDTV.

It happened at LaForestta Cafe in Gurugam on Saturday, according to local reports.

The shocking incident was captured on video.

Ankit Kumar told police that he, his wife and their friends were finishing eating when a waiter gave them packets of what was supposed to be traditional sugar-and-spice palate cleansers, the Indian Express reported.

Kumar told people they did not ingest the contents of the packets because he was holding his infant daughter in his lap but watched as other partymembers consumed and then reacted to the dry ice.

Dry ice is the cooled and condensed form of the gas carbon dioxide.

Police arrested the restaurant manager, India Today reported.

In a similar case, a man reportedly suffered serious burns to his intestine, oesophagus and stomach after drinking a cocktail containing dry ice at a bar in Birmingham, England back in 2017.
