A school bus and semitruck crashed on a highway in western Illinois on Monday, killing five people, three of them children according to officials.
In a press conference, Illinois State Police Troop 6 Captain Jody Huffman said the bus crossed the center line into the westbound lanes "for an unknown reason" and into the path of a semitruck hauling sand while going eastbound on Illinois Route 24. Both vehicles caught fire in the accident.
Illinois School Bus Crash Kills 5 People
The town is in sorrow as a result of this tragedy. With an estimated population of around 2,600 people and a location about fifty miles to the northwest of Springfield, the occurrence took place at around 11:30 a.m., causing shockwaves to travel throughout the city of Rushville.

Three children, Maria Miller, age 5, Andrew Miller, age 3, and Noah Driscoll, age 3, were identified as the victims. All three of them were residents of Rushville. The disaster lost the lives of a number of people, including the driver of the bus, Angela Spiker, who was 57 years old and also from Rushville, and the driver of the semi-truck, David Coufal, who was 72 years old and from Browning, Illinois, according to New York Times.

The Schuyler-Industry Schools posted their deep sorrow on Facebook in reaction to the heartbreaking news. They recognized the death of both kids and staff members who were involved in the unfortunate occurrence. As a sign of respect for those who were involved, the school district chose not to provide any further information and instead stressed its sympathy with the families and community members who were impacted by the incident.
The director of the Internet Service Provider (ISP), Brendan F. Kelly, offered his deepest emotions to the families who were affected by the tragedy and recognised the significant impact it had on the community. Kelly stressed the need of keeping the families of the victims in one's thoughts and prayers during this trying time, and she called for solidarity and support from the broader community.
The city officials of Rushville issued a call for cooperation in response to the tragic occurrence. They urged residents and business owners to fly their flags at half-staff as a sign of respect for the victims of the incident. According to the officials, individuals who were unable to show a flag were invited to leave their porch lights on as a sign of solidarity for the families who are grieving.
As the community tries to come to terms with the terrible loss, the Illinois State Police have indicated that investigations into the details around the deadly incident are now ongoing.
