Eric Carmen - the former frontman of the band The Raspberries and more known for his solo music career as the singer behind "Go All the Way," "All By Myself," and "Hungry Eyes" - has died at the age of 74.
His death was first announced on his website by his widow Amy, who said that he died "in his sleep over the weekend."
"It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen," she wrote, ending the message with a line from his all-time hit "Love Is All That Matters."
However, the announcement fell short of providing the cause or date of his death. He is survived by Amy and their two children, Clayton and Kathryn.
Who Is Eric Carmen?
Carmen was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and started out as a rock singer for The Raspberries, who rebelled against the heavy, glam and progressive-rock scenes of the early '70s and threw back to the Beatles-esque pop they were raised on, Variety reported.
While the band often received criticism for being too pop or wimpy, it did not stop them from being a powerhouse rock band when they chose to, which produced hits like "Go All the Way," "I Wanna Be With You," and "Let's Pretend," to name a few.
When the band broke up in the mid-70s, Carmen reinvented himself as a ballad and power ballad solo artist, cementing his legacy with hits like "All by Myself," "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again," Hungry Eyes," and "Love Is All That Matters."
One of the final highlights of Carmen's life and career was when he joined Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band on tour, performing his biggest solo and Raspberries hits, as well as sitting in with the performer whose band had provided a template for much of his musical life.
Since then, he gradually limited his exposure until he withdrew from social media altogether a few years ago and married his wife, Amy, in 2016.
