A U.S. appeals court is set to begin a review today of Ghislaine Maxwell's conviction and 20-year prison sentence for helping the disgraced late financier Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan will hear oral arguments in the disgraced socialite's appeal.
Maxwell, 62, was convicted in December 2021 for recruiting and grooming underage girls for Epstein. She was moved to a low-security prison in Tallahassee, Florida, after her conviction.
Maxwell is one of Epstein's former girlfriends, and they have remained close friends. Epstein was in jail and awaiting trial for sex trafficking when he allegedly committed suicide in August 2019.
Maxwell's appeal claims prosecutors scapegoated her because Epstein was dead, Reuters reported, and the trial was tainted because a juror didn't disclose he had been sexually abused as a child.
Prosecutors say that Maxwell's appeal has no merit.
A decision in the case is not expected for a few months.
