Parents of Missouri Teen Smashed Into Pavement in Viral Brawl ‘Overwhelmed’ by Support as Daughter Clings to Life

'We are so overwhelmed by all the support and love'

A teenager savagely beaten near a St. Louis-area school in a video that went viral remains unconscious in a hospital in critical condition.

The parents of 16-year-old Kaylee Gain say they remain hopeful for her to make a full recovery.

GoFundMe to raise money for her care reports that the teen has major brain bleeding and swelling and is still not awake.

A separate fundraiser set up by one of her cousins posted a message from her parents.

"We are so grateful for the amazing medical staff who have been working tirelessly to give her the best possible chance at a full recovery," they wrote.

"We know she has a very long road ahead of her but we remain hopeful. We are so overwhelmed by all the support and love. Thank you!"

The fundraisers have brought in more than $200,000 for her medical care.

"Kaylee is fighting hard to stay alive and heal but this is only the beginning of a very uphill battle," organizer Sarah Hall said in the larger fundraiser.

She added that the family will not know the extent of the brain damage until she wakes up.

"The path to recovery will be extremely hard on the family," Hall said.

The fight took place last Friday near Hazelwood East High School.

A video widely circulated on social media shows the two teens start fighting for an unknown reason.

They two end up on the ground and one of the girls repeatedly punches Kaylee in the face before slamming her head into the road several times.

A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with the attack and the Missouri Attorney General wants the teen to be charged fully as an adult.
