Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is asking for a short delay for Donald Trump's New York City trial.
It comes after the U.S. Attorney's Office delayed production of thousands of pages of evidence in connection with the case, the New York Times reported.
Bragg's office has accused Trump of covering up a sex scandal during the 2016 presidential campaign.
In a filing on Thursday Bragg said, "We do not oppose a brief adjournment not to exceed 30 days."
The proposed delay would give Trump's lawyers time to review the new records.
The move comes less than two weeks before the planned start of the criminal case.
The judge would have to approve the delay.
Trump is accused of falsifing internal records kept by his company to hide the true nature of payments to his former lawyer Michael Cohen after he paid porn actor Stormy Daniels $130,000.
It was allegedly part of an effort during Trump's 2016 presidential campaign to bury claims he'd had extramarital sexual encounters.
Trump is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.
But the Associated Press reports that there is no guarantee that a conviction would result in jail time.
