A Michigan man was arrested after a fisherman discovered the body of a missing woman he was having an affair with in the Flint River, according to authorities.
Christina Elizabeth Barber, 48, was last seen entering a Flint motel room with her boyfriend, Christopher Astin Motry, on Feb. 28, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said at a recent news conference.
Motry, 34, was caught on surveillance footage the following day exiting the same motel room with "what appears to be a body in a plastic bag in a fireman's carry and puts it into the bed of his truck," Leyton said.
Barber and Motry's relationship was "tumultuous," Leyton said. Motry was married to another woman and Barber had repeatedly tried to leave the relationship, according to People.
One of Barber's colleagues called the Flint City police on March 2, after Barber failed to answer her phone or show up to work for several days. The next day, police arrived at the motel and discovered the room Barber had rented in disarray.
"The police found a large amount of blood in her room," Barber's adult children wrote in a GoFundMe post. "With kitty litter spread around."
The motel room's comforter, mattress and bedsheets were all covered in blood, according to People.
On March 4, a fisherman contacted police after discovering a garbage bag with "what appeared to be toes from a person sticking out of the bag," Leyton said during the press conference.
The police were only able to identify the badly beaten body as Barber's after looking at the fingerprints and tattoos, her children wrote in their GoFundMe post.
Motry was charged with with first-degree premeditated murder, domestic violence, evidence tampering and concealing a death. His wife is cooperating with police and is not considered a suspect, according to People.
