Two men in Atlanta were hospitalized with gunshot wounds when a confrontation between a security guard and a suspect escalated into violence.
Law enforcement responded to the scene of two separate 911 calls on Friday - one reporting a gunshot wound to the head and the other reporting a gunshot wound to the knee. Over the course of their investigation, they learned that the two cases were linked.
Police first arrived at Discount Food Mart, in southwest Atlanta, where the store's security guard had been shot in the knee. The conscious guard was transferred to a nearby hospital, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Law enforcement was then called to a home, about four miles away, where they found a man who had been shot in the head. Investigators believe that the man suffering from the head injury had shot the security guard at the grocery store.
Police allege that the suspect had pointed a gun at the security guard, outside the grocery store. While attempting to disarm the suspect, the guard was shot in the knee. Eventually, the guard gained control of the weapon and shot the suspect in the head, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The suspect was taken to a secure wing of Grady Memorial Hospital that treats patients in police custody.
Neither man has been publicly identified.
