Deputies responding to a domestic violence call fatally shot a California man who charged at them with a knife after he rammed his muscle car into their patrol vehicle.
The suspect, identified only as a man between the ages of 35-40, violated a restraining order Tuesday night by driving past the victim's house in Bellflower, California - about 20 miles outside of Los Angeles - according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, KABC-TV, KTLA-TV and KNBC-TV reported.
The victim said the man was the father of her children and she suspected he was drunk.
Deputies tracked down the suspect to a nearby Long Beach, California, intersection. As an officer pulled up behind the suspect's vehicle, the man threw his car into reverse, ramming into the front of the responding patrol vehicle, the LASD said.
The suspect then exited his car and charged at the two responding deputies with a knife. The officers fired off their weapons, in response, killing the suspect on the scene, according to authorities.
Witnesses estimated they heard around six shots, KTLA reported.
A deputy was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained during the crash.
