Mom of North Carolina Woman Found Dead with Young Tots: People Would 'Take Advantage' Because She Was 'So Kind'

'I just want to say, I miss my baby, I miss my grandkids,' Markeysha Johnson told reporters

The mother of a North Carolina woman found dead alongside her young kids said people would "take advantage" of her daughter because she was "so kind."

The bodies of 22-year-old Markayla Johnson, 4-year-old Miracle Johnson and 7-month-old Messiah Johnson, were found inside a Charlotte, North Carolina, apartment Friday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The grim discovery came more than a week after loved ones reported them missing.

Markayla's boyfriend, Benjamin Joseph Taylor, 35, was subsequently charged with three counts of murder and one count of concealment of death in connection with the triple slaying, police said. He was not the father of the children and awaits extradition from Imperial County, California.

Speaking to reporters earlier this week, Markayla's mother, Markeysha Johnson, said people would often "take advantage of her [Markayla] because she was so kindhearted."

"I just want to say, I miss my baby, I miss my grandkids," Johnson said, according to WSOC-TV. "She was a good person and everybody knows Kayla would do anything for you. She didn't deserve this. She did not deserve this. She was such a loving person. Everybody knew that."

Police did not disclose the victims' manners of death or a motive in the alleged murders.

The CMPD did not immediately respond to Headline and Global News' request for comment.
