Authorities have identified the alleged accomplice who helped an inmate initiate a successful prison break that left three officers injured.
Nicholas Umphenour is wanted on two charges of aggravated battery against law enforcement and one charge of aiding and abetting, in connection with the escape of prisoner Skylar Meade, according to police.
It's unclear if Umphenour has a criminal history.
The pair have been on the run for more than 24 hours since Meade broke free from custody during treatment for a self-inflicted injury at a hospital in Boise, Idaho, Wednesday.
Police called the 2 a.m. attack "brazen" and "coordinated," during which Umphenour is accused of the non-fatal shootings of two Idaho Department of Corrections officers, facilitating Meade's escape.
A third officer was injured by a responding BPD officer, while the suspects took off in a gray 2020 Honda Civic, according to police.
"We caution anyone who may have contact with the suspects involved in this violent attack and escape to call 911 immediately and not confront them personally," Chief Ron Winegar said in a statement. "They are armed, dangerous, and have shown they are willing to use extreme violence in furtherance of their criminal activity."
Meade was in the middle of serving a 20-year prison sentence for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer with a firearm enhancement and was previously convicted of drug charges, grand theft, and introduction of contraband into a correctional facility.
He had been locked up since October 2016 and his sentence was set to end in October 2036, said police.
Police described Umphenour as 5-foot-11, about 160 lbs, with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Meade is approximately 5-foot-6, 150 lbs, bald, with tattoos on his face. Both men are considered armed and dangerous.
Boise police and the Idaho Department of Corrections did not immediately respond to Headlines & Global News' requests for comment.
