Bail Set at $1 Million For Mississippi Teen Accused of Murdering Her High School Teacher Mom

Carly Madison Gregg was reportedly a student at the same school where her mother taught

A Mississippi teen accused of fatally shooting her mother and attempting to kill her stepdad before fleeing the family home had her bail set at $1 million.

Carly Madison Gregg, 14, will also be tried as an adult for the alleged murder of her mom, Ashley Smylie, a math teacher at Northwest Rankin High School, and the attempted murder of her stepfather, according to authorities, WAPT-TV, WLBT-TV, and AL.com and reported.

She pleaded not guilty.

Gregg's stepdad told investigators he arrived at the family's Brandon, Mississippi, home Tuesday evening to find his 40-year-old wife dead from an apparent gunshot wound. His stepdaughter then allegedly shot him in the shoulder, before he was able to wrestle the gun from her. She, in turn, fled the scene.

Gregg was captured in the area 30 minutes later.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive.

The teen was reportedly a student at the same school where her mother taught, according to WLBT.
