Shannon Hopkins recounts harrowing moments finding Mackenzie Hopkins dead in bathtub.

The Missouri dad of a woman who was brutally killed in her bathtub has talked about how, upon knowing her body, he "collapsed in the front yard."

On January 15, 2022, Mackenzie Hopkins, 24, had been found dead in her Kansas City home by her father, Shannon Hopkins, sister Hazel, and the police.

"I got a few feet inside her home, and [police] pulled me out. Blood was all over the place. My body gave out in the front yard," Shannon said to KMBC.

The 32-year-old Jose E. Escalante-Corchado entered a guilty plea to Mackenzie's murder and the first-degree assault of her 4-year-old daughter Bella, who was gravely hurt but managed to survive.

According to the authorities, a 911 call had been made earlier that morning from the victim's phone number, and blood was located on the floor of the house.

There was a boot print at the location that matched the suspect's, eventually identified as Jose Escalante-Corchado. The prosecutors added that their truck was also found close.

Escalante-Corchado admitted to investigators that he knew Hopkins and her daughter when he was afterwards caught on camera leaving from Hopkins' home, hopping into a truck, and heading to a petrol station.

A report to court records, Escalante-Corchado entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder and assault on Tuesday. He received consecutive 30-year terms for each of the allegations against him, according to People.

"It's just shocking to everybody. I don't think anybody wants to believe these things can happen, especially to somebody and affecting somebody you know," Michelle Bishop, Hopkins' aunt, said.

Mackenzie Hopkins has a sister-in-law named Shawna Hopkins who has started a GoFundMe page to help with the expense of the funeral and medical care.

Escalante-Corchado signed a plea bargain the previous week, which led to him being convicted guilty of first-degree assault and second-degree murder.

Shannon Hopkins voiced a feeling that "nothing makes this right."

"The only thing we can hope for is that we will be able to tenderly embrace and love her daughter for her and on her behalf to the fullest extent of our abilities," Shannon said.

He continued and said, "When she became a mother, she came into her own as an individual."

He said to the station, "She was caring. The most loving person was her."

This summer, Bella, who is now six years old, will go to the United States to visit her family. Bella is now staying in Puerto Rico with her father, New York Post reported.
