One person died and several others were injured following an officer-involved shooting outside an Indianapolis bar Sunday morning.
Two Indianapolis Police Department officers in full uniform were working off-duty at the bar when a disturbance unfolded in the parking lot, according to police.
Officers alleged they witnessed a male suspect shooting at a victim. They confronted the man and exchanged gunfire, resulting in the injury of one of the officers. The suspect was also shot during the confrontation but fled.
He later on showed up to an area hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The Marion County Coroner identified the man as 37-year-old Dominique Lamonte Durham Sr., WXIN-TV reported.
Four others suffered non-fatal gunshot injuries during the incident, including a 33-year-old woman, and three men in their 40s, said police. Detectives are investigating how the victims sustained their injuries.
One gun was recovered from the scene.
Police Chief Christopher Bailey announced the officer who suffered a gunshot wound, "is on the mend and in high spirits. He is ready to get home to his family and get back to serving our community as soon as he is able."
The officers were placed on administrative leave.
A motive in the shooting remains under investigation.
