Major Caribbean Drug Bust Nets Almost 4 Tons Of Cocaine, Following Boat Chase

Joint effort between the Columbian Navy, Airforce, and US Interagency Task Force

Colombian and US officials collaborated to reveal the seizure of almost 3.7 tons of cocaine from a speedboat in the Caribbean Sea on Sunday.

The operation was a joint effort between the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Air Force, and the United States Southern Command's Joint Interagency Task Force.

The Navy released footage showing military ships and planes chasing a "suspicious" speedboat near San Andrés Isla for "several miles" on Sunday. They described the crew as executing several "evasive actions," including throwing packages into the water.

After being intercepted, the boat was then docked at the San Andrés Coast Guard Station. Authorities seized a total of 3,355 kilograms, nearly 3.7 tons, of cocaine, valued at approximately $113 million.

It was disclosed that "more than eight million doses will not reach the streets of different countries, thus avoiding the impact on public health."

The boat was operated by a crew of five individuals, including three Colombians, one Honduran, and one Venezuelan.

Subsequently, the suspects, along with the boat and the confiscated cocaine, were handed over to Colombia's Attorney General's Office.

In a post on social media platform X, the US Joint Interagency Task Force South elaborated on the seizure, congratulating their counterparts on the achievement.

"When the Joint Operating Area is 42 million square miles, it helps to have great partnerships in the fight against illicit trafficking," the task force wrote. "Great job, team!"
