Former Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT), who served as the representative of Connecticut in Washington for 24 years has, according to his family, died, CNN reported.
He was 82.
According to reports from Punchbowl News and Fox 5 DC, a communication to past employees indicated that Lieberman had experienced complications stemming from a fall.
During his tenure as Senator, he developed a reputation as a prominent voice on foreign policy and a staunch supporter of Israel.
Lieberman was a former Democractic vice presidential candidate, running alongside Al Gore in the 2000 presidential race, according to the CT Insider.
Following the close loss of the Gore-Lieberman ticket in 2000, the senator pursued the Democratic nomination in 2004. However, he withdrew from the race after experiencing a string of disappointing primary results.
In subsequent years, Lieberman faced defeat in the Senate primary to future Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont. Despite this setback, he successfully secured re-election as a candidate representing a third party.
