Jonathan Lee, an accounting controller from Louisiana, created a business selling solar eclipse glasses six years ago. Cajun Eclipse Glasses is a one-man company that sells special eclipse glasses designed for viewing the rare event that will happen on April 8.
The solar eclipse will, weather permitting, be visible in the entire United States on Monday the 8th. The path of totality, which is when the moon completely blocks out the sun, will be stretching from Texas to Maine.
"This is just what I do on the side, I guess," Jee said.
His excitement about the 2017 eclipse led him to research the glasses that he would create a business around.
He would eventually find that such glasses were too expensive and decided to make it easier for others to enjoy the eclipse despite the fact another one wouldn't arrive for seven years. Looking at a solar eclipse can be dangerous without eclipse glasses. Here's what to know"I said in 2017, I'm going to buy some glasses the next time we have a solar eclipse," Jee said.
"And that's what I did."
He purchased the glasses in bulk last year and sells them directly from his website. The entrepreneur said he filled more than 2000 orders since taking his business officially online and used artificial intelligence to name the company and devise a business plan.
"Once this is over, my wife will be glad that it's all done, it's just going to retire," Jee said. "I'll probably give away the rest of the glasses because most likely people won't be interested."
"Louisiana will experience 80-90% totality, meaning people will need to venture to other states to see the full blackening out of the sun," BRProud Chief Meteorologist Sam Parish said "We're going to see the dimming of the sunlight," Parish said.
"You'll notice that the outside will look somewhat different. If you miss this one, don't worry Baton Rouge will have an eclipse in May of 2078. It's actually kind of a spiritual experience."
