United Airlines Flight 85 - a Boeing 787 flying from Tel Aviv to Newark - landed in New York's Stewart International Airport on Friday night (Mar. 29) after it experienced severe turbulence.
The turbulence resulted in seven people aboard being taken to hospital for treatment.
United said in a statement that one of the passengers deplaned due to a medical incident, and "a few other customers were seen by medical personnel for possible motion sickness," which it said was a result of high winds reported at Newark.
No major injuries were reported on board, CNN reported.
"On arrival, our first EMS unit on the scene was encountered by a flight crew who stated they hit severe turbulence while landing at Newark and were diverted New York International Airport and they advised our crew that they had multiple people on the plane complaining of nausea, some chest pain, from the turbulence," New Windsor EMS Chief Michael Bigg said.
He added that about 319 people were on the flight, which eventually took off for Newark after refueling.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said they were investigating the incident.
