An Indiana couple out for a walk on a trail were struck by a private plane that fell from the sky, according to authorities at the scene.
The unidentified pair and the plane's pilot were rushed to the hospital Monday morning with critical injuries, according to authorities, WXIN-TV, WTTV-TV, and the Muncie Star Press reported.
It's unclear if the victims on the ground were injured by the plane directly, or if debris falling from the sky hit them.
"That's a bad day," Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office said, according to WTTV. "They're out doing some exercise, going for a walk, and the next thing you know they're being struck by a plane. It's very unfortunate, we're praying for the best for everyone involved."
The single-engine Piper aircraft was en route to the Muncie, Indiana, airport when it dropped, mid-air, Tim Baty with the Delaware County Regional Airport said, according to the station.
The couple's dog was also injured in the accident and is being treated for burns.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
