Conservative attorney and longtime Donald Trump critic George Conway has contributed the maxium allowed for an individual — $929,600 — to President Joe Biden's campaign.
Conway, former husband of top Trump White House aide Kelllyanne Conway, is also headlining a major upcoming campaign event for Biden.
The "Reception with George Conway" in scheduled for April 24, in Washington, DC. The minimum ticket price for the event is $500, according to Axios, which was also the first to report Conway's contribution to the Biden Victory Fund.
Asked why he made the hefty donation to Biden, Conway told CNN: "This election is about nothing less than whether we'll continue to live in a democracy under the rule of law. That's priceless, so I consider my contribution to be a bargain."
Conway frequently made headlines during the Trump administration for his vocal criticism of the president, even as his wife at the time served as White House senior counselor. Following his attacks, Trump characterized George Conway as a "stone cold LOSER & husband from hell" in one 2019 tweet.
In a 2018 interview with the Washington Post, Kellyanne Conway called her then-husband's public criticism of Trump "disrespectful" and "a violation of basic decency, certainly, if not marital vows."
The couple divorced a year ago, thought their relationship was rocky for some time before that.
Sources close to Kellyanne Conway have said that she is considering an offer to join Trump's 2024 campaign, though Trump representatives denied that she was offered a position, Axios reported.
