A former scout for the Tennesee Titans made his first court appearence Wednesday since being accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend, according to a report, and prosecutors are seeking a maximum life sentence.
Blaise Taylor, 27, appeared in court on April 3 for the first time since his arrest by US Marshals in March, according to Fox News, who obtained a notice of intent from the district attorney confirming that they are seeking a life without parole sentence for Taylor.
Taylor is accused of poisoning Jade Benning and the unborn child they shared. On Feb 25, 2023, Benning was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in an ambulance after Taylor called 911. Taylor told the operator that Benning was having some kind of allergic reaction, according to WSMV.
Benning's condition rapidly deteriorated after being admitted, and later became critical. Her unborn child died on Feb 27, and Benning died 8 days later, on her 25th birthday. She was five months pregnant at the time.
Taylor moved to Utah after Benning and the child's deaths. After months of investigations involving crime lab scientists and the medical examiner's office, Taylor was indicted and arrested by US Marshals, WSMV reported.
According to Fox News, Taylor's bond hearing has been set for April 15th. Taylor worked with the Tennessee NFL team from 2019 to 2023 as a scout.
