A 4.8 magnitude earthquake that hit New Jersey, and was felt by people in New York and Pennsylvania, was the strongest shake the area has felt in nearly seven years.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, Friday's quake was located four miles northeast of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, in Hunterdon County, and was three miles deep.
The same area experienced a 2.2 magnitude shake in March.
People in Connecticut and Rhode Island also reported feeling the reverberation of Friday's tremor.
The last time the area experienced an earthquake of similar magnitude was in 2017, when a 6-mile-deep, 4.1 magnitude quake hit near Little Creek, Delaware, according to the USGS.
Prior to that, in 1973, a 3.8 magnitude tremor shook Carneys Point, New Jersey, about nine miles below the earth's surface.
In January, a 1.7 magnitude earthquake struck Queens, New York, and in September, Alburtis, Pennsylvania experienced a shake of equal magnitude.
Most recently in Taiwan Wednesday, a massive 7.5 magnitude earthquake left at least 10 people dead and more than 1,000 injured.
