Retired Trump Organization executive Allen Weisselberg has been sentenced to five months on Rikers Island, on Wednesday, after he pled guilty to two counts of purgery in connection to a civil lawsuit brought against former President Donald Trump.
Weisselberg, 76, admitted that he lied under oath regarding his knowledge of Trump's false financial statements which inflated the size of the former president's Manhattan properties. Attorney General Letitia James accused Trump and several of his business associates of lying about Trump's assets to get better loan terms.
Weisselberg is on probation, serving 100 days in jail after pleading guilty to dodging taxes on $1.7 million in off-the-books compensation from the Trump Organization. Prior to that he had no criminal record.
Under that plea deal, Weisselberg was required to testify as a prosecution witness when the Trump Organization was put on trial for helping executives evade taxes. He did so carefully, laying out the facts of his own involvement in evading taxes but taking care not to implicate Trump, telling jurors that his boss was unaware of the scheme.
