The Glenn Heights Police Department in Texas has confirmed that the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice turned himself into authorities for his involvement in a March 30 multi-vehicle collision on the Central Expressway.

Rice was charged with eight offenses, including six counts of collision causing bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault.

According to court documents, each count of all felonies came with a $5,000 bond, making his total bond $40,000.

The Dallas Morning News was informed by a DeSoto Regional Jail spokesman that Rice was no longer in custody.

According to Texas law, the most serious offense is aggravated assault, which carries a maximum penalty of two to twenty years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

On March 30, the incident that resulted in four injuries occurred on US Highway 75 in Dallas. Lawyer Royce West said that Rice was driving a Lamborghini SUV, and SMU receiver Teddy Knox was behind the wheel of Rice's Corvette.

"He's a young man that made a mistake," West told reporters last Thursday. He added that Rice would do everything he could to bring their life back to normal regarding injuries and property damage.

A six-car collision is said to have resulted from the two cars losing control while traveling at high speeds.

WFAA reported that both the Lamborghini and the Corvette's six occupants fled the scene, and marijuana was discovered inside both vehicles.

Furthermore, WFAA claimed that police also discovered credit cards, a check for $16,500, a diamond chain, and a Chiefs playbook.

Knox, who SMU suspended earlier on Thursday, is charged with the same offenses as Rice.

SMU said in a statement that they take these allegations seriously. It added that federal student privacy laws prevent the University from discussing details of student disciplinary proceedings.

Rice released a statement during the investigation into the crash, saying that he took full responsibility for his part in this matter.
