In the latest development in the Sussex family enterprise Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are participating in the production of two nonfiction series for Netflix that just might again ruffle royal feathers.
One series will reveal "the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining and friendship" — Meghan's passion. The other will provide "unprecedented access to the world of professional polo," including the U.S. Open Polo Championship in Florida, the couple's company Archewell Productions said in a statement. The prince is an avid polo player.
"Known primarily for its aesthetic and social scene, the series will pull the curtain back on the grit and passion of the sport, capturing players and all it takes to compete at the highest level," the statement said of the polo offering.
The lifestyle series will be "curated by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex" in partnership with the Intellectual Property Corporation, which is part of Sony Pictures Television.
Markle will be an executive producer of both series, and Harry will focus on the polo show. Both series are in the beginning stages of production. Release dates and the series' names will be announced in the coming months.
The California couple's TV appearance in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 triggered a major rift with their relatives when Meghan and Harry complained of racism in the royal family.
That was followed in 2022 by a controversial six-part Meghan and Harry documentary in which the pair accused Kensington Palace of lying to protect Prince William and now-King Charles at a family discussion about the couple stepping back from royal duties.
The business announcement comes just as the royal family is grappling with major health problems as both Charles and Kate battle cancer.
