More than 20 barges broke loose on the Ohio River in Western Pennsylvania on Friday causing the temporary closure of a bridge, according to a report.
The 26 barges, 23 of which were loaded and three were empty, broke free late night near Pittsburgh and floated down the Ohio River, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
The McKees Rock Bridge was temporarily closed but reopened after an inspection.
There were no reports of injury.
Eleven of the barges were found after being pinned against the river bank by Brunot Island.
Fourteen others continued down the river and five went over the Emswoth Dam, about 10 miles west of Pittsburgh.
Four of those barges have been recovered, but one is unaccounted for and is believed to have sunk, Cmdr. Justin Jolley, the executive officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Pittsburgh said, the outlet reported.
The incident comes just weeks after a cargo ship lost power and crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore Harbor. Six construction workers on the bridge at the time of the crash were killed.
