A former NATO commander is urging U.S. officials to continue providing aid to Ukraine to fight Russia.

Retired Adm. James Stavridis made the statement in an interview with John Catsimatidis on "The Cats Roundtable" podcast.

He said a $60 billion aid package will basically match what Europe has sent to Ukraine.

While it might sound like a large number is "not a huge amount" of the U.S. military budget, Stavridis said.

"If we don't do it, Putin has a reasonable shot of taking more territory," he said.

Stavridis said Russian President Vladimir Putin will "not stop" unless Ukraine can get the upper hand in fighting.

"We have to stop him in Ukraine before he threatens other nations including NATO allies in Western Europe," he warned.

A U.S. aid package for Kyiv is stuck in Congress. The Republican-led House of Representatives has been a roadblock to passing the package by trying to tie it to funding for the U.S. southern border.
