No. 15 Cincinnati has struggled down the stretch of the regular season. The Bearcats (24-5) head into Thursday's contest looking to avoid losing three straight games after losses to Louisville on Feb. 22 and Connecticut on March 1.
With No. 20 Memphis on Thursday and Rutgers on Saturday, Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin admitted it wouldn't be an easy finish to the season for his team.
"Playing for a conference championship in your last two games, that's big," he said, via the Associated Press. "Then you go to the conference tournament that's one-and-out, and the NCAA tournament is one-and-out. So you've got to be sharp this time of year or it's not going to cost you. There's a lot on the line each night out."
The Bearcats have lost three games in less than a month. Turnovers played a big part in each of the three losses, something Cronin hopes he can remedy in practice.
"The common denominator in all three losses is turnovers. Our turnover situation has been horrific," Cronin said. "... So we have got to practice against the type of defense we saw against SMU, UConn and Louisville. And we've got to do a better job of simulating that type of defense when we play 5-on-5 offense in practice."
Memphis (22-7) lost three games in February -- to SMU, Connecticut and Houston -- but is coming off a 72-66 upset of No. 7 Louisville.
"This year we've had some slipups we shouldn't have had, but that happens," senior guard Michael Dixon said. "I think that going forward we're in pretty good shape."
Memphis hosted Cincinnati on Jan. 4; the Bearcats won, 69-53.
