An Indiana 5-year-old's mother, her boyfriend and grandmother are under arrest in connection her "horrific" death.
The case started unfolding last Tuesday when Indianapolis police responded to a report of an unresponsive child in a home.
The officers found Kinsleigh Welty in a closet and officers say she appeared to be malnourished.
Wayne Township Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported Kinsleigh to Riley Hospital for Children where she died.
Child Abuse detectives responded to the hospital and the home. The Indiana Department of Child Services took custody of other children inside the home.
Kinsleigh's mother, 29-year-old Toni McClure, was arrested on Wednesday for Murder and Child Neglect Resulting in Death. McClure's boyfriend, 27-year-old Ryan Smith, was also arrested for Child Neglect Resulting in Death.
Child Abuse detectives also arrested the grandmother, 53-year-old Tammy Halsey, on Friday for suspected child neglect in connection with the death.
The Marion County Coroner's Office is assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death.
"My heart breaks knowing what Kinsleigh went through in her short life and how she left this world," said Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Chris Bailey.
"The circumstances of Kinsleigh's death are horrific and beyond comprehension. No human being, let alone a child should be treated like she was. These alleged suspects, if convicted, should never step foot outside of a prison."
"I pray Kinsleigh has found internal peace and for her siblings who will need a lot of love and care in the coming days, months, and years, he went on to say.
Kinsleigh's great aunt Carrie Hogan say she had concerns about Kinsleigh due to her mother's past.
"She was murdered by a monster who was her so called mother Toni McClure and her boyfriend," Hogan wrote in a GoFundMe to raise money for Kinsleigh's funeral.
