The FBI is reportedly on alert for any threats to Jews in the United States as they prepare for Passover.

Passover, a weeklong celebration of the liberation of Israelites from Egypt, recounts the biblical story of their escape after hundreds of years of slavery.

FBI Director Christopher Wray noted the terror alert when he took part in a webinar Wednesday with Secure Community Network, the homeland security and safety initiative of the organized Jewish community in North America.

"We at the bureau remain particularly concerned that lone actors could target large gatherings, high-profile events, or symbolic or religious locations for violence," Wray said, according to CNN. "Particularly a concern, of course, as we look to the start of Passover on Monday evening."

Wray also warned about state-sponsored threats to Jews worldwide.

"After the last few days, in particular, the threat posed by Iran itself is very real," Wray said. "We are urging all of our partners here and around the world to stay vigilant."

The Anti-Defamation League reported earlier this week that antisemitic incidents skyrocketed 140 percent last year to record levels.

The group said it was driven in part by a massive spike in antisemitic reactions to the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel and the ongoing war in Gaza.
