Federal officials are sounding the alarm for consumers to immediately stop the use of a certain children's pillow, as the manufacturer declines to recall the infant pillows despite serious suffocation concerns.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday that Chibebe Snuggle Pods manufactured by Millisage LLC, d/b/a Chibebe, "violate the infant pillow ban because of their flexible fabric covering, loose filling, and ability to easily flatten and conform to an infant's body or face."
CPSC said it issued a Notice of Violation to the manufacturer, which is based in Sheridan, Wyo., but "the firm has not agreed to recall these infant pillows or offer a remedy to consumers."
The Chibebe Snuggle Pods were sold online at chibebe.com from September 2021 through November 2023 for about $99. The snuggle pods come with a harness, a toddler seat, and an inner filling bag for the beans.
The agency is warning consumers to immediately stop using the snuggle pods, to separate the snuggle pod case and inner filling bag, and dispose of the snuggle pod case, inner filling bag and bead filling.
CPSC is reminding parents and caregivers that the safest place for an infant to sleep is on a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet or play yard. Infants should always be placed to sleep on their back, and there should never be blankets, pillows, padded crib bumpers, or other items in their sleeping environment.
